Text Box: You may have a legal requirement to train your workforce on the risks of asbestos.

The control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 came into force on 13th November 2006. The regulations require mandatory training for anyone who may be exposed to Asbestos fibres at work. Effectively, this means all building maintenance workers will require some form of Asbestos Awareness training.

All workers will require basic Asbestos Awareness training, ensuring they know the dangers posed by Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) For those maintenance workers who wish to carry out simple Non licensed Asbestos tasks additional and more in depth practical training will be required.

Although the initial legislation regarding the Duty to Manage Asbestos within the Workplace came into force several years ago the responsibility for managing the risks of asbestos within the working environment have not diminished.

Many companies have by now conducted their initial asbestos surveys but there is still an ongoing duty to manage the findings of those reports and re-inspections are an important element of that ongoing management.

Asbestos re-enforcement and refresher training is also an important part of any long term management strategy and will not only help you avoid potential prosecution but help ensure the safety of your workforce and any that may access your premises
